Our terroirs

Our region

This oft-forgotten part of the Loire Valley, the Haut-Poitou vineyard has its roots in a very ancient past (as far back as 876).

Ampelidae is one of the largest organic vineyards in the Loire Valley, with 85 hectares divided into 51 parcels stretching over 30km. Situated at the geological junction of two Massifs (Armorican and Central) and two basins (Paris and Bordeaux), Ampelidae’s vineyards benefit from a temperate oceanic climate and a rich variety of soils, giving them a unique, complex expression.

Diverse terroirs

The estate’s many plots are planted in different types of soil, due to the particular geographical and geological position of this border region between the Aquitaine and Loire basins. This southern sector of the Loire Valley boasts a wide variety of soils (Cenomanian fossils and marl, flint and yellow tufa, groie soil, chalk slopes, Aeolian sands and white tuffeau).
